New Password Expiration Workflow

We've launched a new workflow to help users proactively update their passwords before they expire!

We require password updates every 90 days. This ensures that all user accounts are secure and helps us comply with the security requirements of major networks and streaming platforms. However, we want to ensure that this process isn't confusing, distracting, or cumbersome.

We've disabled the reminders on workstations that users previously received when their password was close to expiration. We felt that those were a distraction for something that didn't need to happen immediately.

Users will now receive emails 10 days and 3 days before their password expires. These emails include a link to go directly to a password update form. This presents each user with a simple method to update their password and gives them enough notice to do it at a time that is convenient for them.

We've also added a new banner at the top of the user dashboard that counts down 14 days before a user's password expires, along with a link to the password update form.

We hope this new workflow helps eliminate distractions and surprises and helps you focus on the thing that brings us all together: the awesome shows and movies that you are editing on Frame One.

Improved Account Registration Workflow

Editing on Frame One starts with your user account.  Your account is your key to all of our services; it's also when we get to meet you for the first time as a user.  In order to provide the most personalized support, we've added a new page to the account registration process to ensure we get all the important details.  These are:

Nickname - Let us know what you like to be called
Pronouns - Only you know you!
Phone - This will show the number we were provided and we'd love to know if it's accurate! 😇
City - This will help us determine what timezone you are in as well as how far you are from our data center to estimate your expected latency.

For existing users, this information can be updated anytime on the Frame One Dashboard.

We hope that this update further streamlines the onboarding process and continues to provide a more personalized experience.

Never Shutdown Again!

Have you ever gone to restart your remote workstation at the end of the day and accidentally hit the Shutdown button instead of Restart? Us too! Well now you can't, because we've hidden the Shutdown button from all workstations. For those of you who are quick to click, this one is for you. 😉

Shared Storage Improvements

We've made another optimization to our shared storage! This time we've upgraded storage metadata to a new, blazingly a fast NVMe pool. This improves performance under heavy loads and improves random I/O operations like search.

The upgrade was made without requiring any maintenance windows or downtime; one of the big benefits of working with powerful clustered storage.

You may not notice an immediate improvement, but we are always working to fine tune our performance and will continue making upgrades to give you the best experience possible.

New Status Page

While we aim to deliver 100% uptime of 100% perfection 😉, real life occasionally intervenes. We built Frame One to be highly resilient and tolerant of component failure, but sometimes technology experiences the hiccups. Our new Status Page is a streamlined place to check the status of all service components, check the history of events, and see upcoming scheduled maintenance.

When we experience a service degradation, we will note the status of the exact component in the Status Page. We will also note all upcoming maintenance windows as they are scheduled.

You can subscribe to status notifications through a plethora of channels including email, SMS, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Webhook, or RSS and Atom feeds. You can even limit your notifications to a specific datacenter. This allows you to subscribe individually or set up a channel on your work chat platform to automatically keep your whole team informed. You can even set up custom workflows using automation platforms like Zapier or IFTTT.

We've integrated the Status Page into our Help Desk, so you can get an immediate glance at overall platform status right in the header. When there is an important notification, you'll be informed by a widget on the lower right of the page.

We hope that the new Status Page is a helpful tool to keep your teams in sync!

Shared Storage Tuning

We hope you had an excellent Thanksgiving and a relaxing break!

We spent this holiday being grateful for lower latency metadata calls, higher availability, and optimized load balancing. All of which were tuned and improved on our media storage during the Thanksgiving Maintenance.
